SENIOR GUYANA POLICE OFFICIALS BLAME ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER CLIFTON HICKEN FOR ORDERING A SWAT TEAM TO ESSEQUIBO THAT KILLED BUSINESSMAN ORIN BOSTON
Senior Guyana Police Force (GPF) sources are telling GNN news that Assistant Commissioner Clifton Hicken instructed that the SWAT Unit be dispatched to Essequibo, following complaints by Essequibo residents, who are PPP supporters, to President Irfaan Ali.
Ali and a PPP entourage visited Essequibo last week. Hickens apparently acted without informing Police Commissioner, Nigel Hoppie.
Members of the SWAT Unit of the GPF broke into the home of Afro-Guyanese businessman, Orin Boston, at Dartmount, Essequibo Coast, without a warrant or without cause, and deliberately shot him dead as he slept with his wife in their bed.
The shooting was a clear Police execution
Hicken, it has been reported, later authorized the Police Public Relations department to issue a false statement claiming that Boston was shot during a “confrontation” with Police. The statement was immediately rejected by Boston’s family as well as community leaders, as deliberately false to cover up the police murder.
Hicken is no stranger to corrupt practices and killings in the now-disgraced GPF. He was also allegedly the person who authorized Police in Linden to shoot and kill three Afro-Guyanese protesters during the previous PPP government.
Hickens was also allegedly linked to the December 2008 murder of three alleged pirates who were killed at the Cromarty foreshore, Berbice, after surrendering to the police. They were identified as ex-soldiers James Gibson and Cliff Chichester and Cranston Gill
Several senior officers of the GPF have begun to isolate themselves from Hickens, claiming that he is a killer who is toxic for the GPF.
However, Hicken seems to enjoy the protection and favor of the PPP regime/ A police source said this is so because he carries out their desires with reckless abandon while ignoring the rights of the citizens. Another source said that the PPP loves Hicken because he is willing to shoot and kill Afro-Guyanese citizens who the PPP sees as political enemies.
There is an ongoing protest in Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast, over the police murder of Boston, a young businessman from the community.
