Rapist appeals 40-years prison sentence after serving three

Julius Branker who was sentenced to 40 years behind bar’s back in 2018 for raping a woman at knifepoint as moved to the Court of Appeal to have his sentence broken down.

Branker, who at the time resided at Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice), will be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of 35 years in prison.


The Lindener was found guilty of raping the woman on February 15, 2014, he had broken into the home of the woman, armed with a knife he threatened to kill her. At the time of the ordeal, the woman was said to be in bed with her son who was at the time 18-month-old.

The verdict was handed down by Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall and a 12-member jury back in 2018.

Branker noted that the sentence is heavy while maintaining his innocence.
