DOODNAUTH Bissoondyal, called ‘Lil Budhan’, for whom a wanted bulletin was issued, turned himself in at the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam, on Monday, a little after noon.
The 28-year-old from Lot 81 Coburg Street, Cumberland, East Canje, was wanted by the Police for Robbery Under Arms, after surveillance cameras captured footage from a robbery at the China Town Supermarket, at Number Two Village, East Canje.
According to reports, Bissoondyal and three others, armed with cutlasses and guns, allegedly stormed the Chinese supermarket, on November 2 and made off with over $300,000 in cash and two cellular phones, after holding the patrons and owners at gunpoint.
Following the review of the surveillance tape, wanted bulletins were subsequently issued for Jason Isaacs, 30 of 18 Bristol Street, East Canje Berbice; Ravindra Punwansie, 36, of 12 Palmyra, East Canje, Berbice and Doodauth Bissoondyal.
The police, acting on intelligence, also managed to capture 30-year-old Maryo Bissoondyall of Lot 141 Main Street, Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice; he confessed to the crime and was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. He appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh at Whim Magistrates Court on November 8, 2019 having been ‘slapped’ with three counts of Robbery Under Arms. He was sentenced to two years in prison for each of the three counts. The sentences will, however, run concurrently.
Isaacs subsequently turned himself in on November 7 while Doodnauth followed suit on Monday last in the presence of family members. Ravindra Punwansie is still wanted.
