Murder/rape convict slashes fellow prisoner’s foot with razor blade

Police are investigating the wounding of convicted prisoner, Halmont Hunt c/d Brooks, age 44 yrs, of Hampshire Village, Corentyne, Berbice, who is serving a two-year sentence for wounding. The incident occurred yesterday at around 19:45hrs at the New Amsterdam Prisons.

He was wounded by another prisoner who was serving a sentence for murder/rape.


According to the victim, on the date and time mentioned, he was watching television in the dormitory when the suspect came and asked him for some milk. He obliged.

The suspect then asked the victim why he was not sleeping. He then left. The victim then retired to bed and fell asleep.


The victim alleges that he was awoken by a severe hit to the back of his head and he saw the suspect over him armed with an iron weight (dumbbell), which caused him to receive injuries.

The suspect then told the victim that he (the victim) was interfering with his family and he took a razor blade and cut the victim on his left foot, causing him to receive further injuries.

The victim was escorted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital by prison officers where he was seen and medically examined and is currently in the emergency unit awaiting surgery.

Investigation are continuing.
