Ten persons are in custody in connection with the brutal murder of a Hindu Priest who confronted several men that were imbibing and using indecent language in the vicinity of his house.
Dead is 60-year-old Rishi Bharrat known as Haribole, of Lot 10 Grant 1806 Crabwood Creek; he was brutally beaten by a group of men after he confronted them about the loud music and indecent language next to his house.
Regional Police Commander, Jairam Ramlakhan told the Guyana News Agency that the murder occurred at around 22:15 hrs on Saturday.
According to police reports, the men were imbibing opposite the home of Bharrat and so he went out on the street with a stick and told them to leave the area.
This reportedly angered the men and one of them approached the victim and a fight ensued.
Subsequently, the other men armed themselves with pieces of wood and beat the priest to his head and other parts of the body.
Bharrat was picked up by relatives in an unconscious state and taken to Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
