Pfizer vaccines to arrive today

The Ministry of Health is expected to receive a shipment of the Pfizer Vaccines today, compliments to the US Government.

The shipment is expected to arrive at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport at 14:00hrs today.


Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony; Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand and Charge d’ Affaires of the U.S Embassy Security Office, Mark Cullinane and other officials will be present to receive the shipment of vaccines, followed by a press conference.

On Monday, Guyana received a shipment of 5000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V component two vaccine which arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport at around 12:00hrs.


Additionally, a quantity of the first batch of Johnson and Johnson vaccines also arrived in Guyana on Monday on a Amerijet flight.

According to the Ministry of Health, to date 301, 368 persons across Guyana have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 153,840 persons have been fully vaccinated.

The Health Ministry has long maintained that the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective.

It noted, however, that persons require two doses for the best protection against COVID-19. According to the Health Ministry, it takes two weeks for a person’s body to build up protection, following the final dose.
