Over 2,580 new COVID cases in August

For the month of August, there have been over 2,580 new COVID-19 cases recorded as of August 28 with the highest number of recorded cases this month at 207 on August 25.

There were 13 days on which 100 or more new cases of the virus were recorded. Meanwhile, the date this month with the least new cases recorded was August 9 at 12 cases. 

Altogether, there have been over 24,900 COVID-19 cases recorded in Guyana with over 22,000 recoveries. Region Four is responsible for over 11,400 of these cases or over 45 percent. Far behind but still second in lead is Region Three, Nine and Six at over 2,900, 2,200 and 2000 respectively. 

Meanwhile, there have been 63 deaths as of August 25, 2021 with 22 persons in the COVID-19 ICU as of August 27. 105 persons are in institutional isolation, 1,555 persons are in home isolation and 9 are in institutional quarantine.

The vaccination rate now stands at over 308,000 for the first jab and over 159,000 for the second. Children 12 years and above have begun to receive the Pfizer vaccine which has been approved by the FDA.
